First Birthday Photoshoots & Cake Smash Sessions
A first birthday brings plenty of new expressions, little discoveries and personality. At my studio in Hatfield, Doncaster, you can celebrate with birthday portraits or a cake smash photography session, styled around your chosen colours and theme.
Birthday portraits include a balloon backdrop alongside simple portraits on a plain backdrop, giving you a mix of celebratory and everyday photos. Cake smash sessions begin with clean portraits, followed by cake fun and a splash in the tub afterwards. From soft neutrals to something bright and colourful, we’ll plan a setting you love.
Birthdays for all ages
Birthday photoshoots aren’t just for little ones! Whether you’re celebrating an 18th, 30th, 40th, 50th or another birthday, a portrait session is a lovely excuse to get dressed up and mark the occasion.
My birthday photography sessions in Doncaster can be styled with balloons, your favourite colours or a simple backdrop. Bring an outfit you feel great in, and we’ll create photos that feel like you.

A few helpful answers before your Birthday session at my Hatfield, Doncaster studio.
Where do sessions take place?
My studio is in Hatfield, Doncaster. If you’d prefer an outdoor birthday session during the warmer months, get in touch to discuss suitable locations and arrangements.
How long des the session last?
Cake smash and birthday portrait sessions last around one hour.
What if my child is shy or doesn’t enjoy the cake?
Some children get stuck in straight away, while others need a little time to warm up. We’ll follow your child’s lead and help them feel comfortable, with no pressure to smile or get messy.
A handy trick is to bring a few of their favourite snacks we can pop these on the cake to encourage them to explore and join in!
Can parents and siblings be included?
The session is mainly focused on the birthday child, but parents and siblings are welcome to join in on the birthday set at no extra cost.
If you’d like separate family portraits on a plain backdrop, you can add an extra 30 minutes for £50. Please mention this when booking so I can allow the additional time.
Do you provide the cake for a cake smash?
The cake isn’t included, so you’ll need to bring your own. I’m happy to help you choose a cake that complements your colours and theme.
When should I arrange a first birthday session?
If you’d like your images ready to share on your child’s birthday, aim to have the session one or two weeks beforehand. You can also book closer to, or on, their birthday just let me know your preference when enquiring.
How many photos will I receive?
The standard packages include 10 edited digital images of your choice. The + packages include all edited digital images from your finished gallery. Alternativley images are £10 each or full gallery £70
Can I choose the colours or theme?
Yes! We’ll discuss your ideas beforehand and choose a backdrop, colours and decorations to suit your session. You can keep things neutral or go for something colourful and playful.
Are birthday photoshoots only for babies
Not at all! Birthday photoshoots are for children and adults of any age. From first birthdays to 100th birthday celebrations, we can plan a session around your style and ideas, with your choice of theme or a simple, timeless backdrop.
what should i bring?
Bring your chosen outfit and any change of clothes you’d like photographed. For a cake smash, you’ll also need your cake, a towel and clean clothes for afterwards.
How do i book
Send an enquiry with the birthday date and the type of session you’d like. A £55 deposit secures your session, with the remaining balance due on the day.
